The long awaited line four of the Beijing subway has come into full operation. Connecting the city's northwest end to the south, the 28-kilometer track is expected to reduce traffic congestion and cut travel times.
Subway trains run from 5 in the morning to ten past eleven in the evening, with an interval of 3 and a half minutes. The trains will have mobile signal coverage from China's three major service providers. Several stations are also equipped with Bluetooth access points. Passengers can download nearby maps using the free Bluetooth network. In the next five years, Beijing is planning to finish construction of an additional seven subway lines in the southern part of the city.
