“How big a fool are you, old man? If there are enemies in this wood, a fire is the last thing we want.

the last thing we want,這里是偏正短語,定語后置。

A fire is the last thing. ?We want the thing.

A fire is the last thing ( the thing) we want.

再用關系代詞that/ which 替代the thing形成定語從句:A fire is the last thing which we want.

A fire is the last thing we want.

You are the last man I want to see.

“There’s some enemies a fire will keep away,” Gared said. “Bears and direwolves and and other things.”

Ser Waymar’s mouth became a hard line. “No fire.”

The school should adopt a hard line on puppy love.
