Overseas Chinese have been paying close attention to the two sessions. Issues like social security and employment are their main concerns. Many of them have also expressed confidence about the Chinese economy's ability to recover quickly.
Chen Guangping, head of Dutch Chinese Youth Fed., said, "We are concerned about the domestic situation and have kept an eye on the topics discussed at the meetings, such as people's livelihoods, employment and the impact of the financial crisis."
Li Zonglunm, Standing Vice-chairman of Russian Assoc. for Peaceful Reunification of China, said, "Premier Wen's government work report impressed me a lot, as it is practical and transparent. The report confirmed achievements and outlined difficulties and problems. The way to deal with the financial crisis is getting clearer and we also have strong measures in place now. The government is confident, so we are confident."
Zhang Xiangsheng, Vice president of Thai-Chinese relationship Assoc., said, "This is China's toughest time since entering the 21st century. So I was touched when hearing Premier's work report. It's practical and careful. It has put people's concerns at the top of the government agenda. This is really encouraging."
Some Dutch newspapers have also followed the two sessions. China's economic policies are their top concern, as the effect of the global financial crisis continues to spread. All of the Dutch newspaper coverage expressed confidence that the sustainable development of the Chinese economy may boost the global economy.
