PBS announced Wednesday (July 2) that "Sherlock" Season 4 is in the works, plus a special episode will air prior to the fourth installment of the popular detective series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Executive producer Steven Moffat says in a statement, "A special, plus a new series of three episodes Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect."

Shooting for the special will begin January 2015, with Season 4 shooting later in the year. There is no premiere date yet available for either.
