1900-1920s

These funny illustrations come from a story in the January 1893 issue of The Strand magazine, “Future Dictates of Fashion,” where they predicted the next 100 years of fashion. And they really, really missed the mark.

Well, I guess not too far off the mark for the turn of the century. But these fashions look a bit like a community theater production of My Fair Lady.

1920s

The Roaring Twenties looks more like the “Roaring Bloomers.”

1930s

Hmmmm… maybe they thought people in the ’30s would be into Little Bo Peep fashions?

1940s

they all look like they’re going to an awesome New Year’s Eve party.

1950s

OK, seriously, why did they think people in the ’50s would want to be dressed like court jesters?

1960s

Is it just me, or do these look like costumes from Pirates of the Caribbean?

1970s

Let’s be honest, this is better than 90% of 1970s fashion.

1980s

Apparently they thought that Victorian fashions would be in vogue again in the 1980s.

1990s

Mmmmm. OK, 1993 looks very androgynous. No seriously, is that a man or woman?
?/div>
