Who are you?

Where are you from?

Where are you going to?

They are the three fundamental questions in philosophy.

The implied meaning of such a series of questions compels us to comtemplate the meaning of life.

你是誰(shuí)?你從哪里來(lái)?要到哪里去?

是哲學(xué)上的三大基本問(wèn)題。

這一連串問(wèn)題隱含的意義也促使我們?nèi)ニ伎忌囊饬x。

話題:

1 What is the meaning of life?

2 Why should we find the meaning of life all our life?

3 What do you think of suicide?

4 Anything related to the meaning of life you would like to share with us.

范例1:

Some old people are oppressed by the fear of death. In the young there is a justification for this feeling. Young men who have reason to fear that they will be killed in battle may justifiably feel bitter in the thought that they have been cheated of the best things that life has to offer. But in an old man who has known human joys and sorrows, and has achieved whatever work it was in him to do, the fear of death is somewhat abject and ignoble. The best way to overcome it – so at least it seems to me – is to make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life.
An individual human existence should be like a river – small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being. The man who, in old age, can see his life in this way, will not suffer from the fear of death, since the things he cares for will continue. And if, with the decay of vitality, weariness increases, the thought of rest will not be unwelcome. I should wish to die while still at work, knowing that others will carry on what I can no longer do and content in the thought that what was possible has been done.

范例2:

The meaning of life seems to be an unsolved question puzzling countless people in a life-long time. At one time, I firmly believed that the pursuit of a happy life and a decent job is the eternal destination of life, as many others maintain. However, it is the encounter with numerous individuals that makes me aware of the fact that to many people, especially men, making a difference in the world is their answer to the meaning of life. There is no superiority in these two different answers. People have their own interpretation of this question. Fortunately, a better understanding of life will assist us to live our life to the full. Enjoy your life and find your own answer to the question of meaning of life.
