卡迪夫城堡（Cardiff Castle）位于威爾士首都的卡迪夫，擁有兩千多年的歷史，展示了無以倫比的古今魅力。城堡為布特公園所環(huán)繞，置身于一個長兩英里、從卡迪夫向北延伸的綠色走廊地帶。

這是全英唯一由政府所擁有的城堡。它的歷史可以追述到公元一世紀(jì)，當(dāng)時英國正處于羅馬軍隊(duì)統(tǒng)治時期，卡迪夫城堡的雛形也是由羅馬軍隊(duì)建設(shè)而成。城堡有上百個房間，內(nèi)部裝飾極盡奢華，確實(shí)真正金碧輝煌。

Cardiff Castle is a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion located in the Castle Quarter of Cardiff, Wales.The castle was commissioned by either William the Conqueror or by Robert Fitzhamon, and formed the heart of the medieval town of Cardiff and the Marcher Lord territory of Glamorgan.

In the mid-18th century, Cardiff Castle passed into the hands of Bute. During the first half of the 19th century, the family became extremely wealthy as a result of the growth of the coal industry. The grounds were re-landscaped and reconstructed walls and a gatehouse in a Roman style were incorporated into the castle design.

When the Marquess died in 1947, the castle was given to the city of Cardiff. Today the castle is run as a tourist attraction, with the grounds housing the "Firing Line" regimental museum and interpretation centre. The castle has also served as a venue for events, including musical performances and festivals.

最初，羅馬軍隊(duì)建造卡迪夫城堡，將它作為防御軍事堡壘，也就是軍事基地。在兩千年的歷史中，幾經(jīng)炮火戰(zhàn)爭的洗禮，城堡早在一千多年前，就破爛不堪。而恰好在十八世紀(jì)，有一個叫做BUTE(巴特)的煤老板暴發(fā)戶買下了城堡。為了顯示他的財(cái)富，巴特對城堡進(jìn)行了奢華的裝修工程，城堡內(nèi)部的黃金裝潢也由此而來。

經(jīng)過歐洲眾多設(shè)計(jì)家精心設(shè)計(jì)，城堡翻新工程竣工之后，馬上成為世界建筑史上的精品工程。而極具諷刺意味的是這個靠著煤炭起家的爆發(fā)戶，名字叫做巴特的侯爵，一年只在這個城堡居住幾天的時間。

綠地上，用矮小的木柵欄圍起了一片片的小空地，在小空地的盡頭寫上要祭奠的時期或人群：如：二戰(zhàn)時的空軍死亡人員；越戰(zhàn)時死亡人員；阿富汗戰(zhàn)場死亡人員等等。人們可以在這些空地上安放小十字架，在上面貼一張親人的小照片，寫上他的生生卒年月。還可以悼念無名人員，只插個十字架，上面掛一朵花。
