China's Ding Junhui was attempting to continue his quest for back to back titles at the Welsh Open on Saturday. And it would be Bingham who took the early lead. He won the opening frame and then added the second to seize control. A break of 72 helped Ding to win the fifth frame, but Bingham again stepped straight back in and moved 4-2 in front.

It was then that Ding made a major move, winning three frames in a row, a fine 70 taking him 5-4 in front and on the verge of a place in the final, one win away in the race to six. But Bingham dug deep and produced a break of 93 when he needed it most to set up a deciding frame.

Ding would be in first with 23 but despite getting off to a good start, a miss on a tricky blue would hand the table back to Bingham. And he would not hand it back. With a fine century Bingham cleared the table to seal his place in Sunday’s final where he will face Stephen Maguire who beat Judd Trump in the other semi.
