After 40 years on the hunt, could scientists have finally chased down the Higgs Boson, otherwise known as the "God Particle"?
Scientists at the CERN research centre have discovered a new subatomic particle consistent with the Higgs theory. A CERN spokesman says though the results are preliminary, it is very "strong and solid".
The Higgs Boson is believed to be the key to understanding the formation of stars, planets and eventually life after the Big Bang some 13.7 billion years ago.
Physicists have been smashing particles together at near light-speed at the CERN laboratory to find the missing piece of the puzzle to the fundamental theory of physics known as the Standard Model. CERN is holding a seminar on the research, with a formal announcement to follow.
