House lawmakers vote Friday on a Republican plan to hold down interest rates on federal student loans. The plan would pay for the nearly six-billion dollar cost with cuts in the health care overhaul law.

The U.S. plans to move about 9,000 marines off of the Japanese island of Okinawa. There is widespread opposition in Okinawa to the large U.S. military presence there.

The Federal Trade Commission has hired a prominent trial lawyer to oversee its investigation into Google's business practices. Google faces accusations of using its internet search dominance to stifle competition.

And former Democratic presidential contender John Edwards' ex-aide is expected back on the witness stand in North Carolina on Friday. Andrew Young admitted on Thursday that much of the secret payments from political donors went to build Young's house, not to hide Edwards' then-pregnant mistress.
