It was kitten’s first full moon.
小貓咪生來第一次見到滿月。

When she saw it,?she thought,
看著圓圓的月亮，她心想，

There’s a little bowl of milk in the sky.
那是一盆掛在天上的牛奶吧。

And she wanted it.
她好想喝呀。

So she closed her eyes?and stretched her neck?and opened her mouth and licked.
于是她閉上了眼睛，伸長了脖子，張開了嘴巴，用舌頭一舔。

But Kitten only ended up?with a bug on her tongue.
可是小貓咪舔到的，只是一只小飛蟲。

Poor Kitten!

Still, there was the little bowl of milk, just waiting.
那一小盆牛奶還掛在天上，靜靜地等著呢。

So she pulled herself together?and wiggled her bottom?and sprang from the top step?of the porch.
于是她弓起身子，扭了扭屁股，從門廊前的臺階上一躍而起。

But Kitten only tumbled–
但是小貓咪跌倒了

bumping her nose?and banging her ear and pinching her tail.
撞到了她的鼻子、她的耳朵和她的尾巴。

?Still, there was the little bowl of milk, just waiting.
那一小盆牛奶還掛在天上，靜靜地等著呢。

So she chased it –
于是她追了過去——

down the sidewalk,?through the garden,
跑下人行道，穿過花園，

past the field,?and by the pond.
經(jīng)過田野，來到池塘邊。

But Kitten never seemed?to get closer.
可是它好像離小貓咪還是那么遠(yuǎn)。

Poor Kitten!
可憐的小貓咪！

Still, there was the little bowl of milk, just waiting.
那一小盆牛奶還掛在天上，靜靜地等著呢。

So she ran to the tallest tree she could find,
于是她跑向那顆最高的樹

and she climbed and climbed and climbed to the very top.
她爬呀爬，爬呀爬，一直爬到樹頂上。

But Kitten still couldn’t reach the bowl of milk,
可是她還是夠不到那碗牛奶

and now she was scared.
而且現(xiàn)在她感到害怕了。

Poor Kitten!
可憐的小貓咪！

What could she do!
她該怎么辦呀！

Then, in the pond, Kitten saw another bowl of milk.
然后她在池塘里，看到了另一碗牛奶。

And it was bigger.
更大的一碗牛奶！

What a night!
多么美好的一晚??！

So she raced down the tree and raced through the grass and raced to the edge of the pond.
于是她沖下那棵樹，又沖到那片草地上，一口氣沖到池塘邊

She leaped with all her might –
她使出吃奶得勁一跳——

Poor Kitten!
可憐的小貓咪！

She was wet and sad and tired and hungry.
她現(xiàn)在又濕又難過又累又餓。

So she went back home –
她只好回家了——

and there was a great big bowl of milk on the porch
就在那兒，在門廊上，有大大的一盆牛奶
