Two Iranian naval ships have docked at the Syrian port of Tartous on Saturday. The ships are said to be providing training for Syrian naval forces under an agreement signed a year ago by the two allies. Meanwhile shelling in Homs continued for a 15th straight day.

Activists and official media reported at least six people killed on Sunday. Sporadic shelling that targeted the Baba Amr neighbourhood in the defiant city intensified in the afternoon to a rate of 4-5 rockets a minute.

According to activists' estimates, more than six thousand people have died since anti-government protests erupted last March.

A member of the Syrian Revolution Council Deeb al-Dimashqi said that "huge demonstrations" were expected. But he added that security forces had imposed a tight clampdown around the city.
