新華網(wǎng)悉尼８月５日電（報(bào)道員胡萌）澳大利亞悉尼市政府５日宣布，該市已開始籌備迎接中國(guó)龍年，并將與中國(guó)四川省成都市合作，把迎接龍年的活動(dòng)辦得更加精彩。
澳大利亞悉尼市長(zhǎng)克洛弗·穆爾說(shuō)：“悉尼市政府的中國(guó)農(nóng)歷新年慶典活動(dòng)是全球最壯觀的農(nóng)歷新年慶祝活動(dòng)之一，悉尼市與中國(guó)長(zhǎng)久持續(xù)的友好關(guān)系豐富了悉尼市文化活動(dòng)的內(nèi)涵。我堅(jiān)信，在為喜迎龍年做準(zhǔn)備的未來(lái)數(shù)月中，我們將與成都市結(jié)成緊密關(guān)系，將迎接２０１２年中國(guó)農(nóng)歷新年的慶典辦得更加盛大、更加精彩?！?br> 目前，悉尼市政府已與成都市外事辦工作組就迎接龍年慶典計(jì)劃，包括“花燈大巡游”等一系列主題活動(dòng)進(jìn)行了探討。

"I think we all do. That's the wonderful thing about a country like Australia with its various communities of different culture backgrounds. And the Chinese community is incredibly important to us. 10% of people living in Sydney have the Chinese background. Mandarin and Cantonese are the two languages most spoken after English in the Australian households." The mayor says the Year of the Dragon is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the plight of the endangered Komodo dragon, a rare species of lizard. She even joked about the Komodo dragon and the dragon in the Chinese culture having similar origins. "Oh, their relationship is they are all part of the same family. 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, it symbolize as I think is strength, power and ambition, doesn't it? I have chosen the Komodo dragon. There are only 3,000 adults in the world now, and we want to make sure they continue." The eye-catching celebration will start on January 20th, two days before the Chinese New Year.
