Tess: I’d love some.
Josie: Cindy?
Cindy: Sure. Thanks.
Josie: OK. Well, let me just turn on the machine. (turns the coffee maker on) That’s funny.
Pete: What’s wrong?
Josie: The machine won’t turn on.
Pete: Are you sure?
Josie: Yes. See? When I push this button the little light should turn on.. But it doesn’t.
Conversation B
Tess: Maybe you’re pushing the wrong button. Maybe you should read the manual.
Cindy: I know the problem.
Pete: You do? What is it? Is the machine broken?
Cindy: No. It’s not broken. It’s just not plugged in.
Josie: It’s not?
Josie: Oh, you’re right. I’m so embarrassed.
Tess: Don’t be embarrassed, Josie. That could happen to any of us.
Conversation C
Josie: I’m glad to have you around, Cindy. You’re very helpful.
Cindy: Thanks, Josie. Speaking of being helpful, can I ask you for a favor, Pete?
Pete: Sure, what is it?
Cindy: I’d love to explore the neighborhood. Could you show me around?
Pete: Uh, sure. I guess.
Cindy: Great! Let’s go! (Pete and Cindy leave. Tess laughs.)
Josie: What’s so funny?
Tess: I just took Cindy on a tour of the neighborhood!
