China has launched a second round of sea trials for its first aircraft carrier. The news has just been confirmed at a press conference held by the Defense Ministry. The trial is likely to include test flights from the vessel. According to military experts, catapults may also be tested to see whether they can help propel various types of aircraft into the air. Some media reports say that a deck-based J-15 fighter will be deployed on the carrier. But that was not confirmed by the military. The refitted former Soviet carrier had its first test run in Liaoning Province in August. It's over 300 meters long, and has a displacement of more than 58,000 tonnes. China will be the last permanent member of the UN Security Council to operate a fully functioning carrier once the vessel is delivered to the navy.
