September 22nd, 1927 - Jack Dempsey loses the infamous Long Count.
Jack Dempsey gained his first [-----1-----]title in 1919 with a brutal three round TKO of Jess Willard, who had defeated Jack Johnson. The Manassas mauler often filled stadiums that held more than 100,000 people during his seven-year reign as a champ. Famed for destroying opponents with fierce suddenness, he came back to stop Luis Firpo after the Wild Bull of the Pampas had [-----2-----]. In 1925, Dempsey married actress Estelle Taylor and prepared for a movie career. This may have hurt him when he lost the decision to Gene Tunney in 1926. Dempsey [-----3-----]Tunney in a re-match, but [-----4-----] by not going to a neutral corner. He lost the apparent[-----5-----] and the decision and retired a year later.
