August 25, 1944 - Paris is liberated.


From the chateau de Rambouillet, General Charles DeGaulle secretly order General Jacques LeClerc to ignore the higher Allied command [-----1-----] and march on Paris. On August 25th, 1944, Leclerc's [-----2-----] entered Paris followed by the U.S. Fourth Infantry Division. Nazi resistance was light and a quick [-----3-----] was negotiated by German General Von Choltiz, who ignored orders from Adolf Hitler to [-----4-----]. A day later, a [-----5-----] De Gaulle led the joyous liberation march. Grand as the occasion was, Allied commanders Eisenhower and Bradley had hoped to save precious time and fuel.Bradley estimated that the Paris liberation may have cost the Allies two weeks in their primary goal of defeating Germany.
