The nation's Emergency Alert System will be activated nationally for the first time this afternoon to test its capability. FEMA chief Craig Fugate warns some video systems may make it look like a real emergency. He says that and other flaws are being addressed.
An unusual Bering Sea Storm with hurricane-force winds and giant waves has taken in Western Alaska. The National Weather Service says the front of the storm has reached Nome, bringing 60-mile an hour winds, blowing snow and a quarter mile visibility.
Ohio voters have rejected a law limiting collective bargaining rights for state workers. The referendum led to the highest state voter turnout in an off-year election in 20 years.
And a good Samaritan got the favor repaid very quickly. Victor Giesbrecht stopped to help two women change a tire along a Wisconsin highway. Minutes later after driving away, he had a heart attack. The women called police, and deputies were able to revive him.
