A 10-year-old schoolgirl has become fluent in four languages - despite the fact she is completely blind. Alexia Sloane lost her sight at the age of two after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent 18 months of gruelling chemotherapy. But the ambitious schoolgirl has not let her disability hold her back and has become fluent in Spanish, French, Chinese and Braille by the age of 10.

Alexia has excelled at languages and is now learning German She has already achieved two A*s for GCSEs in French and Spanish, which she took aged nine, and is now learning Arabic and Russian. Last week Alexia went to Brussels, Belgium, to translate a top European Union meeting after winning the 'most courageous child' award at a local community event.
四種語言都精通的Alexia Sloane并不滿足,目前她還在學(xué)習(xí)德語,希望自己在德語上有一番新的造詣。據(jù)悉,GCSE是英文General Certificate Secondary Education的簡稱,即英國普通初級(jí)中學(xué)畢業(yè)文憑。相當(dāng)于中國國內(nèi)的初中畢業(yè)考試文憑,但實(shí)際上,GCSE是英國中學(xué)4年級(jí)和5年級(jí)的學(xué)習(xí)課程,程 度和要求都比國內(nèi)初中畢業(yè)生要高,從理論上說應(yīng)該是國內(nèi)的高一學(xué)生申請(qǐng)較為合適。經(jīng)過兩年GCSE學(xué)習(xí)后,學(xué)生方可進(jìn)入A LEVEL階段的學(xué)習(xí)。學(xué)生GCSE的成績將被作為A LEVEL甚至大學(xué)錄取的參考。聰明的小女孩Alexia Sloane在GCSE的法語考試和西班牙語考試已經(jīng)拿下了兩個(gè)A的高分,這個(gè)好成績是她在9歲的時(shí)候取得的,如今她還在學(xué)習(xí)阿拉伯語以及俄羅斯語。上周,Alexia Sloane在獲得“最勇敢的孩子”稱號(hào)后,她前往比利時(shí)布魯塞爾,擔(dān)任歐盟會(huì)議的翻譯。

Alexia said: 'I love learning languages. Spanish and French were quite easy to learn, but Chinese is hard because you have to get the tones perfect. 'My way of looking at is that without language we wouldn't know anything about the world. 'At the age of six I said to my mother I wanted to learn another language and she said 'alright how about Chinese?'. So I did. I want to learn Arabic and Russian next. Alexia with her mother Isabelle. At 10-years-old she has become the youngest interpreter to work at the European Parliament and she is blind translater.
