STEVE INSKEEP, host: And today's last word in business comes from Tokyo. It's expensive sushi.

(Soundbite of bells)

INSKEEP: Every year, a celebratory bell rings at the famous Tsukiji Fish Market(筑底魚市場), where buyers bid on a ritual first tuna of the year. This week, the winning tuna sold for nearly $400,000, which is the highest amount ever paid for a single fish.

Now, granted, this was a big fish. It was more than 700 pounds. But sliced up, that still comes to more than $500 per pound, or maybe around $25 per bite.

That's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.
