Harry felt, afterward, that he should have known it was all too good to last.

After lunch they went to the reptile house. It was cool and dark in there, with lit windows all along the walls. Behind the glass, all sorts of lizards and snakes were crawling and slithering over bits of wood and stone. Dudley and Piers wanted to see huge, poisonous cobras and thick, man-crushing pythons. Dudley quickly found the largest snake in the place. It could have wrapped its body twice around Uncle Vernon's car and crushed it into a trash can — but at the moment it didn't look in the mood. In fact, it was fast asleep.

Dudley stood with his nose pressed against the glass, staring at the glistening brown coils.

"Make it move," he whined at his father. Uncle Vernon tapped on the glass, but the snake didn't budge.

"Do it again," Dudley ordered. Uncle Vernon rapped the glass smartly with his knuckles, but the snake just snoozed on.

"This is boring," Dudley moaned. He shuffled away.

吃過午飯，他們來到爬蟲館。館里陰冷、晦暗，沿四面墻都是明亮的玻璃窗。隔著玻璃只見各色蜥蜴和蛇在木塊上或石塊上爬來爬去，溜溜達達。達力和皮爾想看看有劇毒的大眼鏡蛇和攻擊性很強的巨蟒。達力很快就找到了館里最大的一條巨蟒。它能用它的身體纏繞弗農姨父的汽車兩圈，然后把它擠壓成一堆廢鐵……不過這時看來它并沒有這種心思，它睡得正香呢。

達力用鼻子緊貼著玻璃盯著這盤亮閃閃的棕色巨蟒。

“讓它動呀。”達力哼哼唧唧地央求他父親。弗農姨父敲了敲玻璃，巨蟒卻紋絲不動。

“再敲一遍?！边_力命令說。弗農姨父用指節(jié)狠狠地敲玻璃，可大蟒繼續(xù)打盹。

“真煩人。”達力抱怨了一句，拖著腳慢慢吞吞地走開了。

主要知識點：

1. too good to last:

too…to這個詞組不少人都比較熟悉，表示的是“太……以至于（不能）……”的意思。
在“too good to last”中，也同樣是用它的這個意思，直譯為“太過于美好以至于無法長久”。具體應該怎么說才順口，還需要我們在具體語境中體會啦。比如說：
It was too good to last.（美好的一切總是那么短暫。）

2. be in the mood：

最常見的搭配是“be in the mood for sth”以及“be in the mood to do sth”，表示“有心情做某事”的意思。
比如說：I'm just in the mood for a movie right now.（只是我現(xiàn)在很想看場電影。）

3. snooze：

“snooze”的意思是“小睡（尤指白天）；打盹”。比如說：
Dad was snoozing by the fire.（爸爸正在爐火旁打盹。）
另外在鬧鐘上還有一個按鈕叫做“snooze button”，也就是拍一下它過個五分鐘十分鐘就會再響，讓你多賴一會兒床。

4. shuffle:

“shuffle”作為動詞指的是“拖著腳步走”，比如說：
The queue shuffled forward slowly.（排長隊的人拖著腳步往前蹭。）
此外，“shuffle”還可以指“洗牌”哦，比如說：Who is going to shuffle?（誰洗牌？）
