On October 21, 1959, Dr. Werner Von Braun arrives at NASA. Von Braun was only 25 when he masterminded the V-2 rocket for Nazi Germany. When the first V-2's struck London in 1944, Von Braun said it worked perfectly but hit the wrong planet. For he had always preferred to take aim at outer space, which is why President Kennedy expressed supreme confidence that Von Braun would be the man America needed to fulfuill the President's ambitious goal of placing a man on the moon before the end of the 1960's. My God, we'll do it, responded Von Braun, and Apollo 11 did dramatically fulfill Kennedy's challenge in 1969 with the world's first moon landing. One small step for a rocket genius.
