On October 8th, 1967 - Che Guevara was executed.

Che Guevera was imbued with the idea that the lonely man of action could revolutionize a people and shape history. He strove, almost from adolescence to destroy what he saw as Yankee domination of Latin America. The Argentine physician went on to become one of the leaders of the Cuban Revolution. He toured the world, repeatedly visiting Moscow and Peking, even addressing the United Nations. Theory had it that in spite of his folk hero status, Soviet pressure caused Che's removal from his economic posts in Cuba and his subsequent disappearance in 1965. The C.I.A. apparently had a hand in it, but the Bolivian government announced that Guevera was killed during a guerrilla action - this point in time - October 8th, 1967.
