On May 7, 1915 - The Lusitania is sunk by German submarine's torpedo and leaves 1198 dead.

The sinking of Lusitania stirred enough public outrage to be erroneously remembered as triggering America's entry into World War I. Shortly before the Cunard Liner left New York, Germany published a newspaper advertisement warning citizens of neutral countries against traveling aboard such enemy passenger ships. Although Britain denied that the ocean liner was carrying munitions, torpedos were fired from a German submarine and quickly caused Lusitania to list, making lifeboats largely inaccessible. May 7, 1915, then became a day of infamy, had left 1198 dead, of whom 124 were Americans. Similar incidents of the following two years eventually caused the U.S. to declare war.
