So,um...Yeah, I painted this because I felt like the play was about life, you know? And life is full of color. And we each get to come along and we add our own color to the painting. You know? And even though it’s not very big, the painting, you sort of have to figure that it goes on forever,you know, in each direction. So, like, to infinity, you know? Cause that’s kind of like life, right? And it’s really crazy, if you think about it, isn’t it, that, a hundred years ago, some guy that I never met came to this country with a suitcase. He has a son, who has a son, who has me. So, at first, when I was painting, I was thinking, you know, maybe up here, that was that guy’s part of the painting and then, you know, down here, that’s my part of the painting. And then I started to think, well, what if...we’re all in the painting, everywhere? And-and what if we’re in the painting before we’re born? What if we’re in it after we die? And these colors that we keep adding, what if they just keep getting added on top of one another, until eventually we’re not even different colors anymore? We’re just...one thing. One painting. I mean, my dad is not with us anymore. He’s not alive, but he’s with us. He’s with me every day. It all just sort of fits somehow. And even if you don’t understand how yet, people will die in our lives, people that we love. In the future. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe years from now. I mean, it’s kind of beautiful, right, if you think about it, the fact that just because someone dies, just because you can’t see them or talk to them anymore, it doesn’t mean they’re not still in the painting. I think maybe that’s the point of the whole thing. There’s no dying. There’s no you or me or them. It’s just us. And this...sloppy...wild, colorful, magical thing that has no beginning, it has no end...this right here...I think it’s us.
啊，我畫了這個因為我覺得這個劇是關(guān)于人生的，你知道嗎？那人生是多彩的。我們每個人都會出場在畫里加入我們自己的顏色。你明白吧？就算這是一幅不大的畫，你也得明白，這幅畫沒有盡頭，在每一個方向上繼續(xù)，無限延伸，明白嗎？因為這就像是人生，對嗎？這真的很瘋狂，你想象一下，一百年前，一個我沒見過的人提著手提箱來到這個城市。他有一個兒子，他的兒子又有一個兒子，再然后又有了我。所以最初我畫這幅畫的時候，我在想，也許在這兒，上面，是那個老爺爺在這幅畫上的位置，到了這邊下面，就是我在這幅畫里的位置。然后我就開始想，如果在這幅畫里到處都存在著我們。如果在出生之前我們就在這幅畫里了呢？如果在死亡之后我們還在畫里呢？這些我們不斷往上加的顏色，如果它們一直不停地覆蓋著別的顏色，直到最后，我們再也不是各異的顏色了，我們?nèi)跒榱艘惑w，成為一幅畫。我是說，我爸爸已經(jīng)不在我們身邊了。他不在世上了，但他和我們在一起。每天他都和我在一起。命運總能把一切安排妥當(dāng)，即使你現(xiàn)在還未能明白。將來我們的生活中會有人死去，那些我們愛的人，也許是明天，也許是多年后。我是說，這也挺美好的，對嗎？如果你這么想，有人逝世這件事，僅僅因為你再也看不見他們，或者再也不能和他們說話，那并不意味著他們不在這幅畫上了。我想也許這才是關(guān)鍵點。沒有死亡一說，沒有你或我或是他們，只有我們。這幅亂糟糟的、狂亂的、多彩的、魔性的畫，沒有開端也沒有終點，就在這兒，我想它就是我們。

每一個生命的開始都不是無謂的，它常常勾起我們的思考，或是畏懼，或是驚喜，這些都是生命本身所具有的魔力。人的一生，以生為始，以死為終，生是奇妙而偉大的，死也不一定只纏有悲傷和痛苦。我們害怕失去我們愛的人，但是其實這并不是失去，只是另一種方式的擁有，一種更接近心靈的距離。即使有一天我們愛的人要離我們而去，或是我們也要離開這個我們愛著的世界，即使不舍，即使悲傷，我們也能夠用一種更加美麗的方式，去懷念離開我們的人，去用另外的方式永存，因為死亡不是永恒的離開，因為這才是完整的我們，因為我們就是永恒。
