I guess that was the beginning of why he was sent to prison in 1962 for 27 years. Can you imagine, 27 years in solitary confinement! And most of that time was spent doing hard labour. That just shows his strength of character. Many men would have gone insane, I’m sure. During his imprisonment, Mandela became a symbol of the anti-apartheid movement among South Africa's black population and among the international community that opposed apartheid. Yes, and he also rejected government offers for him to leave prison, as long as he renounced violence. Mandela shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 with Klerk, South Africa's last white president. Their combined efforts ended apartheid in South Africa. What an amazing man! Three years after his release, South Africans of all races were allowed to vote for the first time in a national election. They selected Mandela as their president, giving him 62% of the vote. I think that this bio-pic could be our best project ever.
