三峽工程位于西陵峽的三斗坪，由跨江大壩、水電站和通航設(shè)施組成。作為世界上最大的水利工程，三峽工程在防洪、發(fā)電、航運、養(yǎng)殖等方面具有巨大效益。2006年5月20日，對于著名的長江三峽水電工程來說，是具有歷史意義的一天：三峽大壩正式建成，比原計劃提前了近10個月。三峽工程是世界上最大的水電站，總裝機容量1820萬千瓦，年發(fā)電量847億千瓦時。

The Three Gorges Project is located in Sandouping of the Xiling Gorge, consisting of a large dam across a river, a hydroelectric power station and navigation structures. As the world’s largest water conservancy project, this project has great benefits in flood control, power generation, shipping and breeding. May 20, 2006 was a historical day for the famous Three Gorges Hydro-electric Project on Yangtze River: the Three Gorges Dam was officially opened, nearly 10 months earlier than scheduled. The Three Gorges Project is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world, with a combined generating capacity of 18.2 million kilowatt and an annual electricity generation of 84.7 billion kilowatt-hour.
