[Conversation]
W: Hi, Jeff, you seem thoughtful today.
M: Well, I do have a problem. I’m not sure how to solve it.
W: So tell me about it. Two heads are better than one.
M: I promised to tutor Joe in math. We’ve got that test, and…
W: Joe is hopelessly confused, I know. I heard you talking to him.
M: But, my roommate just got tickets to go hear Muddy Watters play jazz. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to hear him! I’ve got all his records and everything. Problem is, the concert is tonight, at the same time I told Joe we’d meet. So… what should I do?
W: If it was me, I’d go see Joe. He is your best friend, and a promise is a promise. Plus, you told him first. Go listen to Muddy Watters tomorrow.
M: I know and I feel so guilty. But Muddy Watters is here for just the one night. If I don’t go now, I’ll not have another chance.
W: Well, there is the Tutoring Center. You could tell Joe to call them and line up another tutor. That way you could go to the concert and Joe could still get the help he needs.
M: True… But Joe likes the way I explain things. Telling him “Get someone else.” like this and on short notice is like saying “I don’t care.” He’s got enough worries with the test coming. He doesn’t need me making things even harder on him.
在聽錄音的過程中,可記下如下筆記
1st √ 1) promised → tutor rude → another tutor ×warn 2) duty >entertain~ if man ×keep cmt (commitment), when ? |
4. 60秒答題
可將本題筆記進(jìn)行如下展開:
Problem |
l? → tutor frd → math test The man promised to tutor a friend for a math test. l? but tk ← rmt → concert / nite But his roommate got tickets for a one-time-only concert |
2 solutions |
l? miss the show → tutor frd & → show, find another tutor He can either miss the performance to tutor his friend, or he can go to the concert and tell his friend to find another tutor. |
Better choice |
l? 1st √ Personally speaking, the first solution is better. |
Reasons |
l? 1) promised → tutor He made the promise to do the tutoring first. l? rude → another tutor ×warn It would be rude to tell his friend to find another tutor without any warning in advance. l? 2) duty >entertain~ I think duty takes precedence over entertainment. l? if man ×keep cmt (commitment), when? If the man does not learn to keep a commitment now while he is young, when will he learn to do so? |
注意將展開的句子串聯(lián)成正式回答時(shí),利用模板句將各段流暢銜接。
