紅樓夢(mèng)是中國古典小說的巔峰之作。它能夠走向世界，在很大程度上是由于英文譯本的推廣。由于英語是國際通用語言，因此，一個(gè)好的英譯本對(duì)于世界學(xué)者了解紅樓夢(mèng)十分重要。紅樓夢(mèng)有兩個(gè)最有名的英文全譯本，分別是英國牛津大學(xué)教授大衛(wèi).霍克斯（David Hawkes）譯本（The Story of the Stone)和中國翻譯家楊憲益和夫人戴乃迭的合譯本(A Dream of Red Mansions)。

作者簡(jiǎn)介：

楊憲益（1915年1月10日－2009年11月23日），生于天津，祖籍安徽盱眙(今屬江蘇省淮安市)鮑集鎮(zhèn)梁集村，中國著名翻譯家、外國文學(xué)研究專家、詩人。楊憲益曾與夫人戴乃迭合作翻譯全本《紅樓夢(mèng)》、全本《儒林外史》等多部中國歷史名著，在國外皆獲得好評(píng)，產(chǎn)生了廣泛影響。

戴維·霍克思（David Hawkes ），英國漢學(xué)家，他的重大成就是翻譯一百二十回的《紅樓夢(mèng)》全譯本，他名之為《石頭記》，這是英語世紀(jì)第一個(gè)《紅樓夢(mèng)》全譯本，也是西方漢學(xué)史和翻譯界一件大事?；艨怂紴橹袊膶W(xué)走向世界做出了重大貢獻(xiàn)。他也專研楚辭、杜詩等著作。
