destroy, exterminate, extinguish
這3個動詞均有“消滅”之意。
destroy :使某人或某物無用或毀滅。
Destroy after reading.（閱畢銷毀。）
exterminate : 指大量地、成批地殺害、消滅。
Some people exterminate garden insects by spraying poison on the plants.（有些人在植物上噴撒毒劑以殺死花園內(nèi)的昆蟲。）
extinguish : 原義指滅火，轉(zhuǎn)義后暗示生命、希望等像火一樣地消滅、熄滅。
His discovery extinguished the achievements of his colleague.（他的發(fā)現(xiàn)使他同事的成就黯然失色。）
