despite, in spite of, notwithstanding
這些前置詞或前置短語都含有“雖然，盡管”之意。
despite : 書面用詞，指不受某事或某種原因的阻礙，語氣輕于in spite of。
Despite the fact that she is short, she is an excellent basketball player.(盡管她個子矮, 卻是個出色的籃球運動員。)
in spite of : 在這些詞中語氣最強，可與despite換用，口語或書面語中均可使用。
I went out in spite of the rain.(盡管下雨我仍然外出。)
notwithstanding : 語氣最弱，僅表示一種障礙的存在。
