destroy, exterminate, extinguish
這3個(gè)動(dòng)詞均有“消滅”之意。
destroy : 指通過殺戮或終止某人某物的機(jī)能，使之無(wú)用或毀滅。
It seems he's destroying himself.（他似乎正在毀滅自己。）
exterminate : 指大量地、成批地殺害、消滅。
Some people exterminate garden insects by spraying poison on the plants。（有些人在植物上噴撒毒劑以殺死花園內(nèi)的昆蟲。）
extinguish : 原義指滅火，轉(zhuǎn)義后暗示生命、希望等像火一樣地消滅、熄滅。
