Ye Shiwen was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on March 1, 1996. She began swimming when she was only six years old.
Ye is not only China’s youngest swimmer at the 2012 London Olympic Games, but also the fastest. She won two gold medals: one in Women’s 200m Individual Medley (女子200米混合泳), and the other in 400m Individual Medley (女子400米混合泳) gold medal. She even broke the world record in the 400m event!
China, and perhaps the whole world, is proud of Ye. But the swimming champion is very humble. She says that her success comes from hard training. “I am very young and I am sure I will get better.” Ye says.
