Moammar Gadhafi stood defiant in the face of the heaviest and most punishing NATO airstrikes yet. At least 50 attacks over 24 hours sent plumes of smoke above the Libyan leaders compound in Tripoli.

A solar flare erupted from the sun in an impressive display captured by NASA cameras. NASA says the flare peaked on Tuesday and created a large cloud that appeared to cover almost half the surface of the sun.

And the torch for the 2012 London Olympics has been revealed, a golden aluminum tube with 8,000 mesh-like holes that represents the number of torchbearers and miles it will travel in the 70-day relay across Britain.
